Every student is different. Some are preparing for performances, some simply want to play their favorite songs, and others are picking up an instrument for the very first time. My commitment is to meet each student where they are and help them make consistent, meaningful progress toward their goals.

I believe the best results come from a partnership between the student, the family, and the teacher. This document explains how my studio operates and what you can expect as a member of the RL Music Lessons community.

Music lessons are about far more than learning an instrument.

My goal is to help students grow in confidence, discipline, creativity, perseverance, and self-expression while discovering the joy of making music. I strive to create an environment where students feel encouraged, challenged, and supported. Every student should know that I believe in them, celebrate their progress, and am committed to helping them become the best musician—and the best version of themselves—they can be.

Students learn best when they enjoy the journey. Whenever possible, lessons incorporate music and styles that genuinely interest each student while building the technical skills and musical understanding needed for long-term success.

No two students learn exactly the same way.

Lessons are tailored to each student's age, experience, interests, and goals. Depending on the instrument and the student's objectives, instruction may follow one of two general approaches:

Structured Method

• Method books

• Technical exercises

• Music theory

• Ear training

• Songs that reinforce newly learned skills

Song-Focused Learning

• Learning favorite songs as early as possible

• Technique integrated naturally into the music

• Exercises that support current repertoire

• Skill development driven by student interests

Many students enjoy a blend of both approaches. Together, we will choose the path that best supports the student's goals.

Lessons are available for:

• Piano/Keyboard (ages 5+)

• Ukulele (ages 5+)

• Guitar (ages 7+)

• Bass Guitar (ages 10+)

Lessons are available for both children and adults.

30 Minutes — $40

45 Minutes — $55

60 Minutes — $70

A 10% sibling discount is available.

Item descriptionStudents reserve a permanent weekly lesson time. Consistency is one of the most important factors in making steady musical progress, and your reserved lesson time is held specifically for you each week.

Lessons are scheduled through Google Calendar invitations. Parents are encouraged to accept calendar invitations so any schedule changes remain centralized and easy to manage.

Students are expected to attend lessons consistently.

Student Cancellations

• Lessons canceled at least 24 hours in advance are not charged.

• Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full.

• Missed lessons without notice (no-shows) are charged in full.

If an alternate lesson time is available, I am happy to reschedule a canceled lesson. Because studio availability is limited, alternate lesson times cannot be guaranteed.

Instructor Cancellations

If I need to cancel a lesson, you will not be charged for that lesson.

Whenever possible, I will offer alternate lesson times. If another mutually convenient time is not available, we will simply resume our normal lesson schedule the following week.

Students are expected to attend lessons regularly. Occasional cancellations are understandable; however, frequent cancellations or extended patterns of missed lessons may make it difficult for students to progress and may prompt a conversation about whether the current lesson schedule remains the best fit.tem description

Students are billed monthly at the end of each month based on lessons actually taught, along with any lessons forfeited due to late cancellations or no-shows.

Lessons canceled with at least 24 hours' notice simply do not appear on that month's invoice.

Invoices are due within seven days unless other arrangements have been made.

Parents play an important role in a student's musical development, especially for younger students.

Parents are always welcome to observe lessons. For many younger students, I encourage parents to attend so we can work together to support consistent practice and celebrate progress.

As students mature, communication may transition more directly to the student when appropriate. My goal is always to use the communication style that best supports the student's success.

Consistent practice between lessons is essential for steady musical progress.

Practice expectations vary depending on the student's age, experience, and goals, but regular effort is expected from every student. Students who practice consistently generally enjoy lessons more and make significantly faster progress.

If a student is struggling to practice consistently, we will work together to identify obstacles and develop a plan for improvement. This may include adjusting practice routines, increasing parent involvement, or using practice logs to help establish productive habits.

My responsibility is not simply to teach lessons—it is to help students make meaningful progress.

Open communication is encouraged. Small concerns are often easiest to address before they become larger ones.

Whenever practical, I prefer discussing student progress or concerns before or after lessons with the student and parent together.

Email is the preferred method of communication outside lesson times, and I typically respond within 24 hours.

Lessons are held in my home teaching studio.

Entrance is through the side gate on the right side of the house. New students will be met outside during their first lesson. Returning students may wait in the home office until called into the studio.

Parking is available in the driveway or wherever space is available in front of the home.

Piano students are not required to bring an instrument to lessons.

Students taking guitar, bass, or ukulele lessons should bring their own instrument and any assigned books or learning materials.

Please do not attend lessons if the student has a contagious illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, strep throat, or similar conditions.

Because lessons take place in a garage studio that also functions as a home gym, children should remain supervised at all times. Exercise equipment is not intended for play.

Lessons continue throughout the summer on the regular weekly schedule.

Families taking extended vacations are welcome to keep their reserved lesson time, provided they intend to resume regular weekly lessons upon returning.

Students who withdraw from lessons release their reserved lesson time. Should they wish to return in the future, lesson times are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If no openings are available, the student will be placed on the waiting list.

If you decide to discontinue lessons, I appreciate two weeks' notice whenever possible. This allows me to conclude instruction well and begin offering the lesson time to students on the waiting list.

As RL Music Lessons continues to grow, I plan to offer additional opportunities such as student recitals, workshops, and other community-building events.
